Each year the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce leads a delegation of area business leaders and community partners to Washington, D.C. to lobby on behalf of area interests. The annual trip includes meetings with the Department of Defense and the New Mexico Federal delegation.
These meetings are meant to inform and strengthen the communications with our officials on areas of importance to the region and the protection of regional assets like White Sands Missile Range.
Recent focus has been on sequestration and its impact on the local economy, White Sands Millile Range (WSMR) and the obstacle to their mission capabilities that the proposed Sun Zia transmission line presents and the issue of another possible round of BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) that potentially could occur in 2015 or 2017.
