Old issues of Wind and Sand are still needed

Nearly 40 years of White Sands Missile Range’s rich history is now encapsulated on a website for the public to view, free of charge.
The website, www.wsmrhistoric.com, holds newspaper issues of the Wind and Sand from 1950-90. The Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division’s Cultural Resource Program spearheaded the project.
“It’s complete. We invite you to take some time and enjoy the rich past of White Sands Missile Range, found in this tremendous resource,” said Bill Godby, WSMR Stewardship archeologist and project lead.

Missile Ranger Editor The 2nd Engineer Battalion said farewell to White Sands Missile Range during a casing of the colors ceremony April 30 at the 2E Parade Field.
Soldiers with the 2nd Engineer Battalion made their final formation as they prepare to depart WSMR.
Following the casing of the colors, the commander of the 3rd Brigade, Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Col. Chip Daniels, thanked members of the Las Cruces community for coming out.
“Thank you for taking care of this battalion for so long,” he said.
“This battalion is all about teamwork,” Daniels said.
FIRE DETACHMENTS CONDUCT DRILLS AT HOLLOMAN
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - Members of the 702nd, 582nd, 306th and 907th Fire Detachments from the state of Washington will be here Wednesday, June 24, to Sunday, June 28, for a Mission Readiness Exercise.
The training will be held at the Holloman Fire Emergency Services training area and will consist of structural drills, search and rescue and aircraft rescue firefighting.
The four firefighting detachments will be training here to prepare for an upcoming deployment. They are using the FES training area to fulfill training requirements in one area to reduce travel time and costs.

High school students test rockets at WSMR

Students from five Texas area high schools had an opportunity to experience the life of a rocket scientist during the Student Rocket Launch, held July 6-8 at White Sands Missile Range.
Four students from Marble Falls High School were the first to attempt to launch their 450-pound rocket. Eight students at the school were involved in building and designing the 18-foot rocket as part of the SystemsGo program. Students were hoping their rocket would go up to 100,000 feet.
