The Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce consistently works toward meeting the needs of its members.
A few of these efforts include a new tiered dues structure to provide more benefits, restructuring the Small Business Workshops to be an innovative learning tool, a work force development program called Skill-Ready Doña Ana, a discount prescription drug card program, enhanced networking events and the creation of a Membership Advisory Committee to keep its members connected to the mission. That special moment
As a Conquistadore, there are those special moments that I will never forget. We had a ribbon cutting and anopen house at Desert Peak Assisted Living. Our very own Conquistadore Dan Duggan, also a veteran himself, was presenting awards to those who serviced our country in WWII and other wars. As the plaques were given out, the smiles of those men and women grew wider — some sitting in wheelchairs holding an American flag. I looked around and found people cheering and some with tears of joy.

In July, our special projects committee person Karissa Doan from Pioneer Bank worked hard by putting together our annual summer quarterly at Rick and Karen Altamirano’s house. Rick works at First Light Federal Credit Union and Karen works at Steinborn Realty. I would like to give a huge “thank you” to Karissa, Karen and Rick. Rick and Karen opened their home and their pool. Rick cooked a delicious steak, hot dogs and hamburgers and others brought side dishes. Las Cruces Day in Santa Fe, an annual event hosted by the Conquistadores, gives each of our citizens, individuals and businesses the opportunity to show their support for our city, our local legislators and legislation that is important to our future.
Members of the business community travel north to Santa Fe for the legislative session and a full weekend of events. This year, we’re lengthening our time in Santa Fe to make a bigger impact. The dates for the 2014 event are Saturday through Tuesday, Feb. 1-4.

If you missed Las Cruces Day in Santa Fe (LCDSF) this year, you missed an opportunity to network, display your profession in the Rotunda, go down on the Senate floor, listen to important decisions being made, breakfast and lunch with great speakers, a fabulous Super Bowl party, trip to the governor’s mansion and, most important, the opportunity to speak with legislators from all over the state about the 2014 Legislative initiatives.
