Ribbon Cutting Tips
- Set a date
- Decide a budget and number of guests to include
- Decide menu or food and drink items needed (if food is to be served)
- Decide where (inside or outside) - try to use a site that will allow your business sign or logo to be in the picture and make sure to not let anyone park in front of your designated site.
- If outside - have an alternative plan for inside that has enough space. If its a groundbreaking, a canopy or tent may be used. Decide if chairs are needed, and don’t forget a table if needed.
- Decide who you are going to invite
- Prepare a list
- Send out invitations (mailing labels are available at the Chamber office)
- Call the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce - 524-1968
- Invite dignitaries and legislators
- Contact media
- Have media equipment available, such as cameras, videos and microphone if needed.
Day of the Event
- Your Conquistadores host will help direct the event and will announce that the event is about to start
- Two Conquistadores will hold the ends of the ribbon at the designated location, and the business host will hold the large scissors (If a groundbreaking, then two gold shovels will be used)
- The Conquistadores host will introduce the business (at this time the business can introduce the staff and themselves with the opportunity to speak about the business).
- The Conquistadores host will read the proclamation with the help of his/her fellow Conquistadores.
- The business host will cut the ribbon or "plant" the shovel at the count of three.
- The Chamber will take photos of the event. They will be published in an upcoming issue of the monthly Bottomline magazine, with a copy of the photo and magazine sent to you.
- After the event is over, the Conquistadores host will keep in contact with the business host.
