Time: 01:00 PM - 02:00 PM Location: KRWG-TV Studio Details: The Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with New Mexico State University's College of Business, will host the final Bank of the West Economic Update Forum of 2010 from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, at the KRWG-TV studio in Milton Hall on the NMSU campus. The event is free and open to the public. The Chamber encourages all members to attend this presentation about the challenges and opportunities facing the Mesilla Valley, the state and the nation. The forum will also be shown on KRWG-TV channel 22 the following week. Returning to speak for this forum will be College of Business professors Jim Peach, Chris Erickson and Ken Martin. Peach will give an overview on the national economy. Erickson will speak on local and regional matters. Martin will share his knowledge about the stock market, its current state and where it is headed next, and will look at the affect of health care reform on the financial markets. Peach holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas-Austin and has served as a professor at NMSU since 1980.His work has been published in a variety of journals and books. Peach has received many awards, including an award for outstanding funded research and an award for teaching excellence. Erickson, in addition to his work as a professor, is a researcher in the field of economics with a specialty in macroeconomics, monetary theory and regional economics. Since 1993, he has maintained a forecasting model of the New Mexico economy and regularly contributes economic data and forecasting to the Las Cruces Bulletin and the Chamber's monthly newsletter, The Bottom Line. Martin serves as a regent's professor of finance and is program director of the Stock Market Game, which serves as a market simulation for students in fourth through 12th grades and at the college level. The Economic Update Forum is organized by the Chamber and NMSU to share the expertise of NMSU professors with the public and help Las Cruces residents succeed in trying economic times.
