The Commercial Space Committee of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce will host the next quarterly Spaceport Community Council Meeting on Thursday, July 29. The meeting will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and will be held in Council Chambers of City Hall, 700 N. Main St. Food and beverage will be available at 5 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide the public with information about what is and what will be happening at Spaceport America and to grow community support of the spaceport and inform local businesses how they can become involved with the commercial space industry. Past issues have included tourism, education and construction.
The keynote speaker for the event will be Rick Homans, executive director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, who will provide an update on construction status of the spaceport followed by a discussion of the opportunities he sees at and around the spaceport.
Moderator Charlie Garcia of Trax International will then lead representatives of existing local businesses through an overview of what their company does followed by a discussion about what they see as potential opportunity and impact. Other speakers include Rob Richardson of Bohannon Huston, Gary Aschbacher of FastWave, Tony Martin of Fourteen30 Production Group and Kari Mitchell of Las Cruces Machine. The community council will conclude with questions from the public.
