Foreign-national soldiers speak to Mayfield HS students

Four foreign-national soldiers participat­ing with Bold Quest at White Sands Missile Range spoke to Advanced Placement (AP) French and world history students at Mayfield High School Wednesday, May 14. Fourteen chosen out of 172 to study science, technology, engineering, mathematics

By Laura Almaraz Missile Ranger Staff Writer Fourteen interns will be working on a variety of science, technology, engineering and mathematics projects at White Sands Missile Range this summer. The STEM interns were welcomed at an orientation meeting followed by a luncheon at the Frontier Club June 2. The group was selected by TRAC out of 172 applicants. WSMR welcomes Brig. Gen. Timothy Coffin

White Sands Missile Range welcomed its 33rd com­manding general during an Assumption of Command Ceremony conducted behind the Frontier Club July 2. Brig. Gen. Timothy R. Coffin assumed responsibility from former WSMR Director Paul Mann.

Army Test and Evaluation Command Commander Maj. Gen. Peter Utley was the host for the event. During his speech, he took the opportunity to welcome Coffin to the installation. He spoke of Coffin’s profes­sional history and how his past leadership roles have made him the best leader to take over the role of com­mander of WSMR.

More than 450 attend informative event

The Army Substance Abuse Program held its first Resiliency Health Fair in an effort to provide the White Sands Missile Range community with the proper tools to lead a healthy mental and physical life Sept. 4 at the Professional Development Center at WSMR.

Several local health and behavioral health facilities were on hand to provide vital information and information about upcoming seminars.

Several vendors, such as Mountain View Co-Op and Sam’s Club, were also present to provide the overall health and wellness the resiliency campaign strives for individuals to obtain.

By Drew Hamilton White Sands Missile Range Public Affairs Office A rocket launched from White Sand Missile Range took new images of the sun during a scientific mission conducted Nov. 6. The rocket, a Black Brant IX sounding rocket launched from WSMRs sounding rocket complex at Launch Complex 36, carried a payload of various telescopes and spectrographs. Under the Rapid Acquisition Imaging Spectrograph Experiment, the rocket rapidly took about 1,500 images of the sun on its flight that took it to an altitude of near 281 kilometers above the earth.
