Many of you had the opportunity to tour the Armijo House during our March Business After Hours. For those of you that missed it, I would be glad to take you through it so you can see what it takes to bring a 150 year old building back to life. We are making terrific progress on renovating the building and expect to move into it by years end. The focus of May’s Leadership Las Cruces class was to take a look at the many aspects of health care in the community. As the community grows, so do the health care needs. In the past that has meant the possibility of traveling to other communities for certain types of care. Leadership participants learned that this is no longer the case. Area health care continues to make advances in types and quality of the health care services provided. Leadership Las Cruces see ins and outs of city, county, state
As part of the July Leadership Las Cruces day, the team set up a tour of local and state government entities.
State Reps. Terry McMillan and Bill McCamley were part of the morning panel session during which the class engaged in a fluid question-and-answer session concerning the state legislature. The discussion included bills, committee assignment, elections and some of the unforeseen challenges each face at the legislature.

Class learns about military’s impact on local community
The day began early with a trip to White Sands Missile Range. On the bus, the class learned about ROTC at New Mexico State University. The bus ride also provided the opportunity to view some general videos about Fort Bliss and Holloman Air Force Base.
At White Sands Missile Range, the class heard from Brig. Gen.Timothy Coffin, who shared his vision for the mission and future of WSMR. Cammy Montoya provided an overview of the mission at WSMR in addition to all of her assistance in organizing the events.

One of the features of this program is that it’s the class’ responsibility to design each month’s agenda. Typically, community topics include visits to the local nonprofit agencies, animal shelters, etc. – all of which receive support from the community.
This year’s class took a different approach. Participants desired to learn how safe and secure the region is and the steps taken to ensure that safety going forward.
