The growth of businesses is very important in our community. Although starting a business is a dream for many, there are many barriers that one must overcome to start up a business. With the help of organizations like SCORE, entrepreneurs can move one step closer to opening their doors for business.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow and succeed nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and has been mentoring small business owners for more than forty years.
It is a valuable network of more than 13,000 volunteers who offer small business entrepreneurs confidential business counseling services at no charge. SCORE volunteers have the knowledge and experience to help any small business owner get the help they need.
This organization also provides local workshops and events throughout the country to connect small business owners with the people and information they need to start, grow, and maintain their businesses, as well as online workshops available at any time.
SCORE provides resources, templates and tools to assist entrepreneurs in developing tools and plans they need to navigate their way to small business success.
Recently, SCORE partnered with WESST in Las Cruces and conducted a series of classes focusing on topics related to small businesses. Topics included: Keeping Records for State and IRS Compliancy; Starting and Operating Your Business in New Mexico; and Conducting Effective Market Analysis.
SCORE is also currently offering online webinars for those who prefer to learn online or can not make it in person. Not only does SCORE provide classes but it also serves clients in face-to-face mentoring sessions, online or in seminars and workshops.
As a nonprofit, SCORE relies highly on volunteers to help continue its mission. By being involved with SCORE, volunteers can give back to the community, connect with other business owners and pass on their knowledge to the next generation of entrepreneurs. SCORE volunteers consist of local business owners who have retired and started other businesses such as John Tegmeyer, Bob Worthington, and other business professionals who have moved into our community As a supporter of veteran-owned businesses, SCORE provides free services to existing and emerging businesses. Through their assistance in start-ups, marketing, sales, management and other services, they show their support in helping veteran business owners.
“Enjoy a free breakfast on SCORE and WESST,” is an upcoming event which will be held at 8 a.m. on July 28. For more information on how to register, call the SCORE office at 523-5627.
