Memorial Medical Center (MMC) announced July 8 that Phillip Rivera has been promoted to president of Physician Services for the hospital. Rivera has been MMC’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) since July 2010. He will continue his responsibilities as COO while the hospital conducts a national search to find a strong candidate to fill the position.
“I am very excited to have Phil serving as president of Physician Services for MMC,” said Paul Herzog, MMC CEO. “During his time as COO, Phil has developed strong relationships with our medical staff, and I am confident that his new role will enable him to continue developing those relationships for the betterment of our community.”
As president of Physician Services, Rivera will direct and supervise the day-today operations of the hospital’s physician practices. Rivera’s promotion is the result of organizational changes at MMC.
These changes include restructuring two leadership positions – president of Physician Services, for which Rivera has been selected, and president of Hospital Services, for which the hospital is currently interviewing top candidates.
Previously, Rivera was assistant Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2000-01 and vice president and CFO of MMC from 2001-05, before serving as CFO of University Medical Center in El Paso from 2005-10. He brings more than 20 years of health care and financial management experience to his new role at MMC.
Rivera earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of New Mexico and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Rivera also served in both the New Mexico Air National Guard and the Air Force.
