Located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and in El Paso, Texas, MVT Mesilla Valley Transportation began in 1981 hauling primarily refrigerated/perishable goods, as a small, independent fleet in the Southwest. During a period of controlled growth through the 1980s and early 1990s, the MVT service area encompassed the 48 United States and Canada. Even then, MVT was recognized as a leader in quality service.
In 1991, MVT brought its knowledge of time-sensitive, reliable transportation to the U.S./Mexico border in service of the twin-plant industry. The acquisition of numerous 53-foot, dry-van trailers made their fleet a sizable force in the industry.
Today, Mesilla Valley Transportation is one of the largest locally-owned transportation providers in Western Texas and New Mexico. They specialize in timesensitive service between major manufacturing areas in the U.S. and Canada, and Mexico borders.
Mesilla Valley Transportation’s mission statement states, “To efficiently and safely serve our customers and employees.”
When asked what inspired Royal Jones, MVT President/CEO, to go into business he said, “I started my own business with one truck in 1973 at the age of 19, and in late 1981, I quit driving and bought a second truck. Started working with Jimmy Ray and we created MVT.”
Today, MVT’s purpose is to provide timely and efficient service anywhere in the country and accomplish the goals of their customers and employees.
What is unique about MVT is that they run trucks differently than others and strive for efficiencies. They also get the best fuel mileage of anyone in the nation.
Through efficiencies and fuel mileage, MVT is able to stay ahead of the competition. Fuel purchasing, driver turnover, and cost per mile are also areas of excellence for MVT.
“We maintain our trucks like new and have our maintenance systems operating like a well- oiled machine,” said Jones.
In the future, MVT’s plan is to continue to grow, with a goal to hopefully double in size within the next 10 years. Their goals are to continuously grow at a safe and profitable rate and to be the best at whatever they do.
