Providing behavioral health care for community

Hospital specializes in quality service

Mesilla Valley Hospital has been in Las Cruces for more than 25 years. Its parent company, Universal Health Services, celebrated its 45th anniversary last year and is the largest behavioral health hospital company in the country.

For the past 25 years, Mesilla Valley Hospital has provided behavioral health care as well as other services to the Las Cruces community. The hospital was originally started by a physician group that saw the need to provide inpatient hospitalization for the members of the community. Over the years, services have evolved to incorporate specialized programming for specific populations. This includes evidence-based treatment models for its geriatric unit, its addiction recovery center and its adolescent residential program.

The mission statement is, “Mesilla Valley Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality care in a compassionate and ethical manner, serving our communities with the highest level of service excellence for psychiatric and substance abuse treatment.”

The hospital specializes in providing psychiatric and addiction treatment to adolescents, adults and seniors. Services are provided on specific treatment programs that take into account the person’s age and the issues they are having that are unique to them.

“People come to us from emergency rooms, doctors’ offices, clinics, schools and many other agencies where people go to for help,” said CEO Bob Mansfield. “We also have people call us directly or walk into the hospital to seek treatment.”

In the future, Mesilla Valley Hospital will continue to the “set the standard for psychiatric and addiction services in our community,” Mansfield said.

It will continually evaluate the needs of the community as it looks to the future and plan new services incorporating changes in the behavioral health field.

What distinguishes Mesilla Valley Hospital from its competitors is it continuously strives to offer new programming based on national best practices that utilize the expertise of its highly trained professional staff. Its medical staff is highly regarded in the community and a few of them have been a part of the Las Cruces community for many years.

When asked what is the most important thing about Mesilla Valley Hospital you would like the community to know, Mansfield said, “We have been a stable New Mexico inpatient hospital provider for over 25 years and we continue to evolve with the changes in our field.

“Our staff is committed to providing quality compassionate care, which has made Mesilla Valley Hospital a choice for New Mexicans in our community and throughout the state. We accept all funding sources, including Medicare, Tricare, Private Insurance and New Mexico Medicaid. We provide services to our active duty military and veterans with pride.”

Mesilla Valley Hospital goals are to help as many community members as possible, supporting their desire for health and wellness. To support its community provider network in obtaining the highest quality of care for the individuals they refer to Mesilla Valley Hospital, and continue to attract quality caring staff to make that happen.
